2022 Wrap Up

The year 2022 didn't exactly go as I had wanted. Below is a brief recap and some pictures, mainly for my own memory.

The Winter 2020-2021 Epilogue

While it looked like the winter was ending in February, that conclusion turned out to be premature.

Tour de Kurjenrahka 2021

The snow is mostly gone, but some colder weather again made the mires frozen. Time to do the Tour de Kurjenrahka route on fatbike.

The Winter 2020-2021 in Memoriam

Goodbye, winter. It was nice to have your cold company and I would have liked to keep you for a bit longer.

Another winter weekend

The winter conditions favor skiing currently, and the snow is too soft for fatbiking elsewhere than on the urban trails. Hence another weekend trip on skis.

Almost winter

We managed to use a nice wintry weather window in the middle of the grey and rainy November misery for a little kayaking overnighter.

Packrafting Liesjärvi

The corona situation continues in Finland and everyone is to stay home, though being out in the nature where there are few other people is encouraged, as long as it happens reasonably close to home and and in a safe manner. Rescue services and hospitals do not need any extra load currently.

Caj Koskinen, one of the main figures on the Finnish packraft scene, contacted me for a trip to Liesjärvi on packraft and I naturally wanted to join, as I had no obstacles this time. Though I live about one kilometer from Caj and his wife Katja, our paths had not previously crossed, even though we roam in the same woods.

Winter's last?

The winter that started so well with 40 cm of snow was beginning to melt already in the middle of February.

Three days of skiing in the Evo hiking area

What do kayakers do during the winter? Some desperately go further away to find open water and others like to take advantage of the winter and do some winter activities. In this case three kayakers from Saaristomeren Melojat started three hour car drive from Turku on Friday morning to spend three days skiing in the Evo hiking area.

Another ski overnighter

The winter in Turku is fantastic. A good amount of snow, in fact as much as in Oulanka and Riisitunturi in Lapland, where I was last weekend. This of course have to be taken advantage of, especially since there might be some rain soon, and a short overnighter on skis was quickly planned.

Ski paradise

This weekend the intention was to go to Jurmo in the outer archipelago with a bunch of friends for the weekend. The idea was to do some real winter kayaking. The weather forecast decided otherwise, though.
