Sälgrund lighthouse
I visited the Sälgrund lighthouse by kayak in June 2017.
The Sälgrund lighthouse is situated just outside Kaskö/Kaskinen and was built in 1875 for the harbour of Kaskö/Kaskinen. It was preceded by a wooden sea mark, built around 1700, and replaced by a higher daymark in 1850. This was still not enough, and real lighthouse was built. It is 25 meters high and the height over water is 30.2 m.
Despite the Sälgrund island being at the closest place just 300 m from land, a number of houses for the lighthouse personnel were built.
The island is, however, fully exposed to all winds from west between south and north, and high windspeeds are often measured there.
