Merikarvia lighthouse

I visited the Merikarvia lighthouse on a kayaking trip from Merikarvia to Kristinestad/Kristiinankaupunki.

The Merikarvia lighthouse doesn't really have any aesthetical properties. Originally the idea was to build a substantial lighthouse there, but geological investigations in 1885 revealed the ground to be too unstable, and the lighthouse was built in Yttergrund instead, even though the small island Isopoda or Kasapoda would have been a good place for a lighthouse.

In 1987 a much lighter construction was built here.

The island is pretty small and basically a gravel or rock ridge.
