Fargo pt. 3

I assembled the Fargo today and am mostly done. I got the last missing pieces from Foxcomp yesterday. Some adjustments still remain to be made, but I did manage to test ride it today. I'm sure that I will still make some small adjustments to the riding position, but it was fun to ride as it was. It looked huge in the cramped space where I assembled it, but outside felt (and looked) right. The standover is no problem whatsoever. It actually felt very nimble to ride and the steering was very much like that of the Gary Fisher G2 geometry, which I happen to like.

I obviously do not need the bash ring, but it was attached to a crank set that was currently unused. The chainring bolts were stuck, so I will have to drill them away at some point to get a 44t outer ring. The Deore rear derailleur anno 2002 will be replaced with something newer at some point and contemplating getting a short travel Thudbuster seatpost instead of the long travel one I currently have, since I feel that it could have less offset.

The large front triangle of the frame does scream for an Epic Designs style frame bag. I will probably try to make one myself.

  1. I have been looking for a rear rack for Pugsley. What is the one you have on the Fargo?

  2. It is a Blackburn EX2, but it won't fit your Pugsley because it is not wide enough to allow for really fat tires. It clears anything I can fit on the Fargo, but not much more. Surly should have something suitable, see http://thelazyrando.wordpress.com/2009/06/19/surly-pugsley-rack-options/

  3. Ok. It just looked big enough. I

know about Surlys rack, but it´s price is astronomical. Circa 100€.

  4. It seems that you have to modify even the Surly rack to make it fit a Pugsley. Weird thing considering that one of main things that people use Pugsleys for is very long endurance races where the bikes have to haul a lot.

    Thubs up to the Fargo!

  5. Great looking bike! That On-One Midge handlebar is something I would like to try out, and I've been thinking about trying adventure biking and bikepacking at some point of my life.

  6. What size is the frame? XL or XXL?

  7. The frame is an XXL and suits me fine, though I also think XL would work.
